The Garden's history

The idea of the Garden came in 1985 from local residents concerned at the loss of vegetation through developments in the region.

Flora: Purple flowering over hillside
Collections

The Garden’s collections are made up of the Living Plant Collection, the Wallace Herbarium Collection, and the Seed Bank.

Our partners

The Friends of the Garden and Forestry Corporation help to realise our conservation, recreational and educational goals.

Red: Regrowth on branch
Fire recovery

The Botanic Garden was damaged by the 2019-20 bushfires. We have rebuilt many structures and are helping the Garden vegetation regenerate naturally.

People: Friends and volunteers tending to plants
Donate or volunteer

Volunteers with a range of skillsets contribute around 15,000 hours to the Garden each year. You can also make a donation or become a sponsor.
